Time for some island sunshine?

Time for some island sunshine?

Don't you just love the promise of "anything's possible" that comes with the start of a new year.  Welcome 2018 !!!!  I know so many of my island friends sure are happy to see the end of 2017, after the devastation down-island.  I love the fact that we were able to give 1119 items of new clothing to some of the women of St.Maarten this Christmas.  Giving sure does feel good!

So what is your dream time for 2018?   Anyone thinking of a little island sunshine?  Palm tree's swaying overhead in the gentle sea breezes?  A wonder along the water edge, with gentle clear turquoise water lapping around your feet.  Spending the day on a beach lounge having ice cold cocktails brought to you.... hopping up only to dip yourself in the sea long enough to cool off.

Sounds dreamy doesn't it..... especially if your life looks a little more like this... you probably deserve a little tropical re-charge before the year gets too busy.

I saw some crazy snow in Tallahassee the other day.  First snow in 30 years I read with amusement.  Seems like the crazy weather system's of Mother Earth are continuing into 2018, so that makes for a pretty valid excuse to fly south for the winter.

Now with the hurricanes that have destroyed some of our favorite islands this summer, it actually makes it a great time to venture south.  You need to remember that only SOME of the islands were HIT, so there are still a LOT of other islands that escaped the wrath, and it is business as usual there.  There are 32 different countries in the Caribbean, spread over 1 million square miles, so not everywhere was affected.  Click here to visit the website of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association where they have updates island by island.

Here is my summary...

These are the islands that were completely unaffected by hurricanes.

  • Antigua
  • Aruba
  • Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Bermuda
  • Bonaire
  • Cancun & Cozumel
  • Cayman Islands
  • Curacao
  • Dominican Republic
  • Guadaloupe
  • Grenada
  • Jamaica
  • Martinique
  • Roatan in Honduras
  • Saba
  • St.Kitts & Nevis
  • St.Vincent & The Grenadines
  • St.Lucia
  • Trinidad & Tobago
  • Turks & Caicos

These are the islands that were affected by hurricanes....

  • Anguilla
  • Barbuda
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Dominica
  • St.Barths
  • Puerto Rico
  • St.Maarten
  • St.Barths
  • US Virgin Islands

However the overwhelming message from these islands is that they are open for business.  I love this video showing how St.Maarten is doing.... boy is that one stunning island !  A visit right now would actually be nice, because most of the businesses are open for business, beaches and water are back to their stunning normal but you wont have the crowds you would normally have this time of year.

I had a FaceTime chat with Tessa at Foxy's the other day, and they are doing ok.  Their Old Year's Night party which is so famous (consistently on the NY Times Top 10 places to bring in the New Year) went ahead with a fantastic toga party.  Look at this photo from their Facebook page.... showing the last sunset for 2017.  STUNNING.

The website by ISLANDS MAGAZINE has some great ideas for Caribbean vacations.

The website cheapcaribbean.com has some great flash sales on right now to 'beat the winter blues".

Sandals Resorts have a SALE on right now where you can save up to 65% off.  The bonus of going to Sandals is that you will find our new 2018 collection in their boutique too!

I love their photo below.

OR think about doing a cruise - I know the cruise ships have started coming back to St.Maarten now.... and a quick google search found lots of good cruise deals.

So whatever your island dreams for 2018.... I hope that I have given you some ideas & inspiration to escape your winter chills, and get on down-island soon.   One love x
